This last month we’ve been very busy at St Brendan’s NS. First, we are working towards our Active Flag. One thing we are doing is Active Breaks Challenges. In the senior room, Mr O’Donovan uses the Spinning Wheel to choose the exercise that the students have to perform on their breaks. It can be anything from star jumps to dancing and press-ups. They have been doing a lot of sports games like Catch, Rock Paper Scissors and Silly Banana.
The senior room also got third place after completing the Cork Sports Challenge.
The students won prizes from the Leap scarecrow art competition.
Mr Elgammal in the junior room secured funding for an arts week for the whole school to enjoy. This will be the first week in December. The week is sponsored by E-Twinnings, Léargas, the European Union and the Department of Education. The activities include a drama workshop on immigration and diversity, African Drumming, a trip to Kinsale Pottery, a trip to The Everyman Theatre to see the Pantomime ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ for the whole school and the last activity is finishing up a Mural that the students have been working on all month.
We had our launch of the Lighting of the Solas le Chéile Tree on Friday the 29th at 1:30. Our board of management was there along with representatives from Bantry Hospice on the day. This is an important fundraiser for the school, we are selling cards which are 5 euros each. Each card goes towards sponsoring a light on our Christmas tree. They can be for a loved one, someone who is ill, or someone who has passed away. We will be selling these cards throughout the month of December. If you would like to buy some cards we will be selling them at Wiseman’s Shop, The Stuffed Olive, Nina’s Place, Bantry BookShop and Sam’s Cara Pottery and Coffee Shop. Or pop in to the school during school hours to purchase cards.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas from everyone here at St Brendan’s NS and best wished for 2025.
