The children at St. Brendan’s NS have been busy in May preparing for the end of the school year. The children, with support of parents, put a lot of work into the Trashion Show Event in Bantry House on Friday 29 th of May. The children showed their creativity when designing costumes for the
Trashion Show from old and recycled materials. They have also been busy practicing the songs for the event at Bantry House.
May is normally the time of year when the swifts return to the swift boxes at school. This year we have the added bonus of having a continuous live stream of the swifts as they nest at the school. This has been exciting to watch and we expect the chicks to be born by the time this goes to print.
Early in this month the whole school took part in an orienteering event in Glengarriff. We would like to thank the organisers for making this event happen. The children had a fun and educational day as they put their map reading skills and speed to the test.
The children in the Senior Room took part in the athletics blitz in the Coláiste recently and also the recent rugby blitz. The swimming classes at the Maritime Hotel were very enjoyable and we would like to thank all the swimming teachers who helped the children.
The most exciting event of this month for everyone at school was the installation of the new All Weather football pitch and playing surface at school.
This was the next phase of the development of the outdoor sensory space at school and we are very grateful to all the support we received for fundraisers in recent years and kind donations to help make this happen. The children now have a playing surface that they can play football and other
sports on all year round. We would to especially like to thank the Bantry Community Fund for their support in making this
dream a reality. The children have now completed their end of year assessments and all the work do academically at school has paid off.
St. Brendan’s N.S will be doing an end of year Cash for Clobber collection so if you have any clobber that you wish to get rid of please drop into the school. We will be grateful to receive any donations.
