May 2024 school news

May was a busy and active month at St. Brendan’s N.S.

The children were delighted to take part in an athletics programme run by the Cork Sports Partnership. Each week in May Deirdre came into the school and did athletics activities and skills training with the children.

All the children in the school really enjoyed taking part in this programme and it culminated in the senior room taking part in  the Athletics Blitz in Coláiste in Bantry  on Friday 24th of May. This was an excellent experience for the children and everyone at school is grateful to Bantry Athletics Club and all the parents who organised the event.

The children at St. Brendan’s NS have been busily making their lunches each morning at school as part of the government funded school meals programme. This has been a very welcome initiative in the school as it allows for very valuable life skills of preparing food to be learned, the social skills of helping each other prepare food and of course the fun of creating their own yummy lunches each day at school.

The junior room were learning all about fire stations in Aistear in the last few weeks. Everyone at school is looking forward to an upcoming visit to Bantry Fire Station in June.

Two pupils from St. Brendan’s NS made their First Holy Communion in Bantry Church recently. This was a lovely occasion and we would like to thank Ms. Ann O’Regan for preparing the children for the occasion.

As we move towards the Summer the children at school have been writing about their favourite Olympians. The sunshine( and rain) in May has also meant that the  school garden is blooming!

FInally, everyone at St. Brendan’s would like to thank everyone who supported our annual Wine and Cheese Fundraiser in Bantry House on Saturday May 18th.

We are very grateful to everyone who bought tickets for the event, to all the musicians, singers and performers who played on the night. We were delighted parents from the school sang on the night as a part of a Ukrainian choir.

It was a lovely evening in  Bantry House and we are grateful to Julie for making the space available. We would also like to thank all of our Sponsors for the event as it couldn’t have happened without their support.

4650 Euros was raised and these funds will be put towards the development of an outdoor sensory space at St. Brendan’s  N.S.
