March 2025 school news

March has been a month of many visitors to St. Brendan’s N.S.

The visit of Eoin Warner to our school was educational and inspiring. Eoin is a native of Bantry and makes nature documentaries for television in both English and Irish language.

Eoin gave a wonderful presentation to the children about the wonders of nature and they were excited to ask him questions about his experiences creating nature documentaries.

The children at the school have been engaging more than ever before with nature and wildlife as they have befriended our four Rhode Island Red hens at school.

There is great excitement every day checking for eggs. The children have also learned how to take care of the hens and love giving them fresh straw and feeding them.

The hens are living near our new Outdoor Sensory Space at school. Here the children have loved playing with the Mud Kitchen each day at school also.

We were delighted to welcome Tom Farley, a teacher in Coomhola School into St. Brendan’s recently to speak to the children about the Uganda Mile Project that he is part of. Tom is cycling in Uganda to raise money to build a hospital. He spoke to the children about the challenges faced by people in Uganda and how we can all help by to build the hospital by contributing to the cause. The children at St. Brendan’s N.S were lucky to have lovely weather the day that they did there Uganda Mile activity. They walked a mile in beautiful sunshine on Monday 23rd of March. We are very lucky to be able to walk to such a lovely setting as the walk overlooking Bantry Bay at the Béicín beach.

The children from the Senior Room at St. Brendan’s had a great day at the Maritime Hotel in Bantry for the Ficheall Chess Tournament. This was a fun and educational day we would like to thank all the organisers of the event.  The Say Yes to Languages Programme has been a positive educational experience for the children also. We would like to thank Gaelle for teaching the children French language lessons during the language programme.

St. Brendan’s N.S is a small school situated in Bantry town. The small class sizes allow more attention to be given to each child who attends the school. We are currently open for enrolments for the 2025/26 school year. Please contact the school on 027 51126 or 087 313 9550 if you are interested in  enrolling your child in St. Brendan’s N.S. We would be delighted to show you around the school.

Everyone at school is looking to the Spring moving towards the Summer and going to swimming lessons at the Maritime Hotel in the weeks ahead.
