February 2025 school news

The month of February as seen the completion of many projects and activities at St. Brendan’s N.S.

The children completed the Cycle Sense programme recently. This was a very positive and educational experience. On the final day of Cycle Sense the children put into action all the safety rules and approaches that they had learned over the four weeks of the programme. The children cycled around town, guided by their teachers and practiced turning correctly at junctions and signalling to traffic about what direction they were going. All the practice in the enclosed space paid off and the children enjoyed a safe cycle around town.

The last of our six Mindful Mondays at the school also took place recently.

During the six weeks the children have learned practical tools for mindfulness and wellbeing such a breathing exercises, chi gong, mindful walks, baking and  art. The block of Zumba lessons that the children have been doing is also completed.

There was great excitement at school recently with the arrival of our four hens to the school. The hens have their own state of the art chicken coop and are settling in very well at St. Brendan’s N.S. The children have loved watching the hens and engaging with them. The best surprise of all has been finding eggs laid by the hens.

The Sensory Space at school is being developed rapidly. The pathways are laid down and the fencing made from natural wooden materials are in place. We look forward to continuing to develop this space over the weeks to come.

The girls’ soccer team at school took part in a soccer tournament in Bantry. This was a very positive experience for them and they all played to their best.

The children in the senior room have been practicing for an upcoming chess tournament. Chess is a great way of testing their logic and reasoning in a fun way. r

The children from school have also visited Bantry Library this month. We are very grateful for the all the resources and support provided by Bantry Library for the  children in school.

Everyone at school is looking forward to the rest of Spring, especially as  the Sensory Space and school garden will blossom. The children are also looking forward to the hens laying more eggs as we move further into Spring.

We are holding a Cash For Clobber clothes recycling fundraiser. Bags of clean clothes, textiles, shoes, curtains, bags and bed linen may be dropped to the school. No pillows or duvets please.

This is a great fundraiser for our school and as always your support is greatly appreciated.

Cash For Clobber items can be dropped at the school any day during school hours or text 087 3139550 to arrange drop off. We will be accepting donations until the end of March.
