St Brendans National School is excited to be part of Active School Flag initiative.
The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) to schools that strive to achieve a physical educated and physically active school community.

This is our own slogan that we co-created with students for Active School Flag initiative.

PE is an integral part of your child’s primary education, that provides them with learning opportunities through the
medium of movement and contributes to their overall development by helping them to lead full, active and healthy lives.
Partnership
ASF empowers schools to develop and strengthen partnerships with parents, local organisations and national agencies.
It encourages schools to adopt a collaborative approach reaching out to parents and the local community for their support. Many of the ASF activities have a HOME focus, several of which incentivise family participation.
Schools are asked to raise awareness about the range and diversity of physical activity opportunities that are available in their local community.
ASF also adopts a collaborative approach seeking to support and promote the work of other national organisations that design and deliver physical activity programmes, events and training opportunities.
Our partners are: Cork Sports Partnership, Glengarriff Golf Club, West Cork Kickboxing, Bantry GAA, Zumba with Karolina
Active School Week
Our Active school week was May 6th to the 9th 2025. The students were able to enjoy activities like Frisbee, Rounders, Zumba dancing, Skipping Rope #skiparoundeurope , GAA, Orienteering, walks to the nearby Beicin Beach and to the lovely Bantry House, Chi Gong, Kick boxing, Student vs Teachers Dodgeball and Penalties on the Principal!
