St Brendan’s N.S has had a busy return to school.
The Children at St. Brendan’s N.S were taking part in the Active Flag initiative in recent months. There was great excitement when the children received the Active Flag this week. This was a great achievement and a reward for all the hard work that the children in Active Flag
Committee, the Active Flag Co-Ordinator in the school Mr O Donovan, the staff and all the children put into this initiative. During the year the children did activities such as Athletics, Orienteering, GAA skills, Cricket, Weekly Walks, Swimming, Kickboxing, Zumba, Yoga, Qi Gong, Skipping Challenges, Badminton, Dodge-ball and more activities.
We were delighted to welcome our new Junior Infants into the school this year. They have settled in well and are enjoying learning in the Junior room.
The Children have been learning songs and hymns for the Annual Diocesan celebration on Thursday 25th of September. On Tuesday 16th of September Peter Stobart came into school and got all the children singing and responding to all the songs. We were delighted to welcome the children from St. James’s N.S in Durrus and St. Mathias in Ballydehob for the song singing practice.
The children in the Senior Room have been reading two great novels. The Twits by Roald Dahl and the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by Irish writer John Boyne. The Senior Room are also really enjoying the New Maths Curriculum with a fresh focus on problem solving in creative ”outside the box” ways.
They do their collaborative Problem Solving Activities every Friday morning. The children from the Junior room and the Senior room went on a nature walk to Bantry House on Monday 22 nd of September. They brought back horse chestnuts, leaves and lots of different
specimens from nature to the school and have created a Nature Table in the classroom. The work put into attaining the Active Flag continues next week with the introduction of rugby lessons to the school.
We are looking forward to a busy, productive year at St. Brendan’s N.S full of learning and activities.
